Date: Tuesday, May 4, 1999
Time: 7:45 P.M. - 11:00 P.M.
Location: The Inn at Jim Thorpe
Equipment: Sony Mavica FD71 Digital Camera, Panasonic 60 minute IC Digital Recorder
Weather: The temperature on the first three floors was about 70 degrees, the temperature on the unused fourth floor was higher.
History: I do not know anything about the history of the Inn.
Present: Andy K., Lew and Sharon G., Kenny and Donna B., Rachel G., Bob R.
Report: We arrived a bit early and talked for a short time outside of the Inn. We entered around 7:45 and, after introductions were made, most of us followed the Inn's owner, Dave, up to the second floor. Dave showed us which rooms were unoccupied. As Dave led Sharon and Rachel to the third floor, I began to investigate by myself.
I explored all of the open rooms on the second floor. I had no impressions in any of the rooms with the exception of room 215 where, upon a second visit, I got the strong impression that I was not alone in this darkened room. I took several pictures with my digital camera and was rewarded with a solid orb in one photograph.
The only other odd incidents that occurred on the second floor were in rooms 211 and 207. Dave opened up room 211 temporarily for Sharon and Rachel to investigate and I joined them there. The room was small and I got no impressions or pictures, however, upon listening to the recording I made on my digital recorder at the time, it seems that I got an EVP (although I can not determine what is being said) just outside of the door at a point where I was standing in the hallway. The experience in 207 involved a very strong sweet smell in that room, but after investigating and noting that the smell did not leave, I determined that it was most likely the smell of something that was used for cleaning or some other deodorizer that was placed in the room.
I had no impressions on the third floor, although one strange incident occurred when Sharon opened the door to one of the rooms and the alarm clock immediately went off. I checked the clock and found that it had been set for the time that it went off. A strange coincidence, but one that I believe is explainable.
My strongest impressions of the Inn came from the unoccupied fourth floor. This floor looked as if it had not been used by guests for at least fifty years. It now appears to be used primarily for storage.
Because the area was very dusty, I decided not to take many pictures with my digital camera to avoid getting false positives. My first visit to the floor was a quick one. I walked down the hallway looking into and entering many of the rooms. The only one that really made any immediate impressions was a larger room that had a small room (the size of the closet) in the back of it. The only object in the room was a bike. I felt strange about this room and spent very little time in it.
Later, I would return to the 4th floor with Sharon and Rachel. Lew had just told us about an odd incident which occurred in the room with the bicycle. While Rachel was away from us, I believe setting up equipment, Sharon and I investigated the bicycle room. I immediately went to the small room that came off the back of this room, but felt very uneasy about entering it and, in fact, had to turn away. I finally forced myself to step into the doorway. After standing there for a second, I noticed a very sweet smell. I called Sharon over and she noticed it as well and identified it as a citrus odor. The smell seemed to come and go, although I noticed that it remained steadier in one side (the left) of the small room. The smell in this unused area certainly was strange, but I am still uncertain whether there could be a very rational explanation for the odor since it seemed more permanent once inside the left side of the room.
Shortly after we smelled this odor, I began to talk to any spirits that might be there as I had been doing in almost every room I visited.
Later, when I listened to my recordings, I noted an EVP that responded to one of my questions. I said "Hello, we smelled your perfume, is anyone in here?" and a man's voice responds "No, no one's here". I know that I did not hear the response at the time and, I know that I did not say it.
We spent most of the rest of the investigation on the steps leading to the fourth floor. I was in a position so that I could look up the stairs to the floor above. Several times, I thought I saw movement up there out of the corner of my eyes. Once we heard a thud upstairs (we went and checked - none of our equipment had fallen). Finally, shortly before we left, Rachel, Sharon and I all thought we heard a whispering coming from the unoccupied floor.
We left the Inn at about 11:00 P.M.
Impressions: I believe there is spirit activity at the Inn at Jim Thorpe, particularly on the fourth floor. The EVP that I got on that floor is my best to date. I believe that more investigations need to be conducted at this site.
I would like to thank the owner and staff of the Inn at Jim Thorpe for allowing us to investigate. Everyone was very friendly and they made me feel very welcome!
